Young People and Neurodiversity

Description

Going through changes: supporting transitions for autistic adults including those with a learning disability

Autistic adults can struggle with change, and this session explores why this is and how we can support them. From big transitions like moving schools to smaller transitions like leaving the house, we will focus on practical strategies, tools and resources you can use in your everyday practice to make transitions a little easier. This session is delivered by a neurodivergent practitioner who uses these strategies within their practice daily

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding why transitions (including mini-transitions like moving from one class to another to major life transitions) can be more challenging for neurodivergent adults
  • Approaches to preparation and planning - who needs to be involved in transition planning, and what tools can help
  • Communicating transitions effectively - how much to share, when and best practice inclusive communication
  • Relevant resources for transition planning
