Child Protection Level 2

Course Description

This course will support participants in defining, recognising and identifying key concepts in relation to Child Protection. 

Participants will develop their understanding of the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland and the policy context of Child Protection.  

Key themes explored will include harm and significant harm, signs of harm and risk thresholds. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply their learning to case scenarios to aid understanding of local responses and procedures.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the difference between harm and significant harm.
  • Describe the types of harm and the signs and symptoms of harm.
  • Understand what is meant by the term "Child Protection".
  • Understand the local Child Protection procedures.
  • Understand information sharing responsibilities and the referral process.

Who should Attend?

This course is aimed at staff in South Ayrshire who have specific designated responsibility for Child Protection as part of their role and those who will be involved in undertaking child protection assessments or working with complex cases.  Newly qualified social workers should attend this course.

Course Length

This is a 2-day training course.
