Adult Respite Care

South Ayrshire Council's Health and Social Care Partnership has a respite-care centre at Chalmers Road, as part of South Ayrshire Council's commitment to providing residential respite for adults with a learning disability who are resident in South Ayrshire and who live at home with family carers. There is space for up to 4 individuals at a time, who may need a high degree of care support, to have a period of respite-care.

Chalmers Road exists to provide a high quality, needs-led and person-centred respite service, with the double aim of giving family carers a break and giving people receiving care from family an opportunity to have a break away from home.

What is a short break/respite care?

Short breaks/respite care for adults with learning disabilities encompasses:

  • Planned short-breaks away from home that involve social and leisure activities based on your needs, which will be identified in your personal plan.
  • An environment where you can continue to develop your skills and abilities.

We aim to provide a variety of flexible and, where possible, responsive respite periods (or short breaks) to you in order that you can have a break away from home, and your carers may have a rest from their caring responsibilities. If you think you or the person you are caring for would like to consider using the service, please phone 01292 614914 and discuss the possibility for an assessment and use of the short break services.
