Whistleblowing

Whistleblowing is defined as raising a concern that relates to speaking up in the public interest about doing an NHS service, where an act of omission has created, or may create, a risk of harm or wrong-doing.

This session aims to provide an introduction to NHS Scotland's Whistleblowing standards which were introduced on 1 April 2021 and provides an outline of the national process which must be applied for raising concerns about patient safety or other harm such as poor practice or fraud.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To understand how to raise a concern
  • Gain a knowledge of the two-stage process. Stage 1 - Early Resolution, Stage 2 - Investigation
  • Apply the principles of confidentiality in a culture of psychological safety
  • How to access eLearning modules on Turas Learn
