MHPs work closely with GPs and the wider healthcare team to ensure patients receive timely mental health assessments, treatment plans, and referrals to specialist services when needed. Their presence enhances access to mental health care and strengthens community wellbeing.
How Can an MHP Help?
Assessment and Treatment Considerations - Longer appointments in comparison to GP consultations allow for in-depth mental health assessments and Individual treatment considerations - in person or by phone.
Signposting and Referrals - MHPs connect patients with the right support, including community groups, helplines, digital tools, and specialist services.
Collaboration - They work alongside GPs, nurses, and other professionals to deliver holistic, person-centred care.
Early Intervention and Prevention - Focused on identifying issues early and promoting wellbeing to prevent escalation.
Education - MHPs educate and assist patients, families, and practice staff to build understanding and resilience.
Advocacy - They advocate for patients' needs within the healthcare system and beyond.
Accessing the MHP Service
The MHP service will offer treatment to patients aged 17 ¾ with no upper age limit. The MHP Service accepts referrals from a wide range of professionals and is also accessible through self-referral via your GP reception staff.
