Self Help Workers
Their aim is to offer guided self help support to individuals registered with General Practice who may be experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of low mood or anxiety.
This support is delivered using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach, helping individuals build skills and strategies to manage their wellbeing.
SHWs work with individuals who are not currently receiving support from other mental health services, offering flexible appointments in person, over the phone, or via NearMe.
Their goal is to help people build confidence, manage stress, and improve their mental health through early intervention and accessible care.
The Self-Help Worker can offer guided self help around the following:
- Worry
- Social Anxiety
- Panic
- Low Mood
- Low Self Esteem
- Communication Skills/ Assertiveness
- Stress/ Problem Solving
- Maintaining Progress
The SHW service will offer treatment to patients aged 17 ¾ with no upper age limit.
Currently referrals to SHWs can be accepted via MHPs or through Adult CMHT where a referral has been triaged and deemed more suitable for SHW intervention.
