The South Ayrshire Champions Board, Champions for Change, are hosting an open-air fun day to screen their new film, "Film, Family and Friend". This will be taking place at Rozelle Park, Ayr on Saturday 18 September from 2pm until 4pm.

Champions for Change was created to give young people in South Ayrshire, who are care experienced, a voice and to use their experience to create positive change. During lockdown the Champions for Change team worked with some talented local young people to develop a series of personal monologues. This was later developed into the short film which will be shown at the event.

Dawn Parker, Corporate Parenting Lead Officer said, "The recent lockdowns have been tough for everyone in our community. Our Champions for Change team was keen to ensure we were able to keep in contact with our care experienced young people. The Champions Board have a reputation for creating incredible films, we decided to create a new feature celebrating the theme Film, Family and Friends."

An initial screening of the film took place at the Gaiety Theatre for all those involved with the film production, which was greatly received. Champions for Change were keen to hold an event to share the stories of care experienced young people in South Ayrshire with the wider community.

The event will also celebrate the work which has been done so far to develop South Ayrshire's new Parenting Promise. The Parenting Promise is a collaborative strategy between South Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and a number of different corporate parents from across South Ayrshire with the purpose of implementing the objectives of the National guidance, "The Promise".

Councillor Peter Henderson, chair of South Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership said, "In South Ayrshire we want the very best for all the children and young people in our care. We want them to know that they are important, loved and respected, we want them to feel happy, healthy and supported to be the very best they can be."

"All of those involved in developing this plan have committed to listening, collaborating and taking action. Collectively we have a critical role to play in achieving the changes we need to make across our communities. By nurturing the hopes and dreams of our children and their families we create a stronger South Ayrshire for us all."

"Film, Family and Friends" and the fun day will be open to all, with young care experienced people receiving 5 VIP tickets each to invite along their friends and family.  To register for a place please visit their Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/film-friends-and-family-tickets-166043112419
