Glowing inspection report received for South Lodge Care Home
South Lodge care home in Ayr received an unannounced inspection from the Care Inspectorate from the 4th - 6th November 2025. Following the visit South Lodge received grades of 5 (Very Good) across the board for all areas of the inspection.
The following four quality indicators where investigated as part of this inspection:
- People's health and wellbeing benefits from their care and support.
- Staff have the right knowledge, competence and development to care for and support people.
- Staffing arrangements are right and staff work well together.
- The setting promotes people's independence.
The inspection report stated that there were significant strengths found in all areas which has contributed to the gradings. Some of the key findings include, the care home promoting people's independence, ensuring residents had influence over the setting and how spaces were used. Residents having access to a range of specialist health and social care professionals to ensure their physical and mental health needs were met. Staff being welcoming and demonstrating good knowledge and understanding of residents, as well as strong rapport.

The staff and management who are responsible for this home have worked tirelessly to ensure that South Lodge provides the highest quality of care and that residents thrive."

South Lodge was also recognised for its focus on reablement, supporting people to build confidence with the aim of returning home. This care home has developed this specific service to address some of the demands on acute care and to help address the issues of delayed discharges. Numerous success stories of the reablement team were shared with the Care Inspectorate.
