Community Payback Orders - Unpaid Work FAQ's

What type or jobs will you do?

We try where possible to have jobs that are meaningful, and they will always be of benefit of benefit to the community.  This can range from wood work projects, painting and landscaping to litter picking and assisting to clean local communities.

Do I have to turn up every week?

The guidance states that individuals should normally attend unpaid work once per week. However, in exceptional circumstances it is recognised that flexibility is required around working patterns and issues such as childcare therefore this may be altered however this decision is made on a case by case basis.

Will it be a safe environment?

Yes, we have strict health and safety protocols in place in addition to risk assessments of all work being undertaken.

Does the department make a profit and where does the money go?

The department does not deal with money.  We do make items for charities which they then sell on to make money for their cause.  An example of this is crafting reindeers at Ayrshire Hospice's Winter Fayre.
