Caledonian System

The Caledonian System is an integrated approach to addressing domestic abuse perpetrated by adult male offenders and improving the lives of women and children.

The Caledonian System takes the form of an intervention system comprising of:

  • The Men's Service - which provides a programme of work with male perpetrators of domestic abuse lasting at least two years, which includes preparation and motivation sessions; a group work programme of twenty-five sessions and post group work. This is delivered by trained social workers.  Men access the programme after receiving a Programme Requirement as part of the Community Payback Order received after being convicted of offences involving domestic abuse.  The Caledonian System in South Ayrshire is delivered by Justice Services and the Caledonian Groupwork Team.

  • The Women's Service - which provides a safety planning, information, advice, advocacy, practical and emotional support to female partners and ex-partners. By working in partnership with the woman the service aims to reduce her vulnerability and works with other services, so they can better support the woman and her family.  The woman's participation is purely voluntary and she can choose to withdraw from the service at any time.

  • The Children's Service - which ensures that the needs of the children whose parents are involved with the Caledonian are met and their rights upheld. The children's worker works in conjunction with other services to support children and promote their safety and reduces the impact of domestic abuse in their lives

The Partnership Delivery Team oversee the group-work element of the programme and the women's and children's services and can be contacted on 01294 322640.

The Men's Service (outwith the group element) is usually overseen by the Justice Services team in Ayr and can be contacted on 01292 612395.
