International Nurses Day 2026
South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) marks International Nurses Day 2026 by recognising the exceptional dedication, professionalism and compassion of our nursing teams across South Ayrshire.
This year's International Council of Nurses (ICN) theme "Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives." calls for meaningful investment in nursing leadership, safe staffing and supportive working environments. It reflects a global understanding that empowered nurses are essential to delivering safe, effective care and strengthening the resilience of health and social care systems.
Recognising the invaluable contribution of nursing teams Mark Inglis, Director of South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: "Our nurses remain at the heart of care delivery across South Ayrshire. Their commitment ensures that essential services are available when people need them most, offering comfort, expertise and hope to individuals and families. Today we acknowledge their invaluable contribution and the difference they make every single day."
"The ICN theme resonates strongly with our local experience. When nurses are empowered to lead, innovate and use their full expertise, outcomes improve for individuals, families and communities. Their leadership, compassion and resilience underpin the strength of our health and social care system."
Nurses play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of people and families across South Ayrshire. Whether working in our communities, care homes, GP practices, schools or hospital settings the compassion, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by our nursing staff makes a real difference every day.
Nursing leadership has been central to advancing our frailty improvement work across adult and community mental health services, ensuring earlier identification, improved pathways and more coordinated support for older people and those living with complex needs. This reflects the ICN's call to empower nurses to lead system‑wide improvements that enhance safety, independence and wellbeing.
Reflecting on the contribution of our nursing workforce, Robert Campbell, South Ayrshire Chief Nurse said: "We offer our sincere thanks to every member of our nursing teams for their leadership, resilience and care. South Ayrshire HSCP remains committed to supporting the wellbeing and professional development of our nursing workforce. Their impact is profound, and their dedication continues to strengthen and inspire our communities."
"We know that nursing is both rewarding and challenging, and we truly value the skill, resilience and dedication you bring to your roles."
As part of our ongoing commitment to person centred care, South Ayrshire HSCP is also supporting the upcoming What Matters to You Roadshow, which celebrates compassionate conversations and strengthens relationships between staff and the people we support.
