How can you be referred to the SACMHT?

The South Ayrshire Adult Community Mental Health Team do not currently offer a self-referral route. But don't worry there are a few simple ways to be referred to us:

  • Your GP or the Mental Health Practitioner at your GP practice can make a referral on your behalf.
  • You can also be referred by other NHS services, including Mental Health Unscheduled Care Teams (out‑of‑hours services).

What to expect at your first appointment

Your first appointment is a chance for you to meet with an experienced mental health professional. Together, you will explore your current symptoms and those other factors in your life that may be affecting your mental health.

This first meeting helps us understand whether treatment from the South Ayrshire Adult Community Mental Health Team would be most helpful for you. Sometimes, we may need more than one appointment to complete the assessment fully - this is completely normal and simply helps us get a clear picture of what support you need.

Following assessment, the outcomes may include treatment tailored to your assessed need and/or information and advice to help you access the service or organisation that is best for you.

Your visit and your confidentiality

It is ok to bring someone with you if you think this may be helpful. However, the mental health professional you are seeing may wish to see you on your own for part of the appointment.

You might also be wondering about confidentiality. Your health records contain information about your health and any care or treatment you receive. We keep this information safe and secure.

Sometimes, we may need to share certain details with other professionals or agencies to support your care. However, your consent would be sought if a request to share information was made.
