About Getting it Right For Every Child (GIRFEC)

Getting it Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), is our national approach aiming to safeguard, support and promote infant, children and young people's wellbeing. It's being embedded across Scotland in a number of ways, by the Scottish Government, Public Agencies, Third Sector Organisations, and Partner Providers.

In South Ayrshire, we are committed to supporting wellbeing by offering the right help at the right time with a focus on our 'Team with the Family' approach. This is our single planning model of support, with the child at heart, but understanding their wellbeing within the context of their whole family.

GIRFEC underpins our Children and Young People's Services Plan 23-26 in South Ayrshire and is relevant for all staff. In South Ayrshire we have developed GIRFEC guidance and materials to support your understanding of GIRFEC and how you can apply the approach in your own role.

GIRFEC Videos (The Alliance)

The Alliance has created a number of videos explaining what GIRFEC is and why it is important.

The main learning outcomes of the GIRFEC training is to support participants to increase their knowledge and understanding of GIRFEC, learn about the GIRFEC toolkit and understand how to promote children, young people and families wellbeing by using the GIRFEC approach. As we weave through the training, have a think about how you may already use GIRFEC in your own practice.

A full training pack with all of the information covered in these modules, easy read guides and BSL animations can also be found on The Alliance website.
