Infant Feeding Nurse (IFN)

Families in South Ayrshire also have access to an Infant Feeding Nurse (IFN) who helps to enable parents to make an informed decision in the ante-natal period on feeding their babies and supporting them in the post-natal period to achieve their feeding goals. 

The infant feeding nurse, who is part of a wider Infant Feeding Team working across Ayrshire, providing specialised infant feeding support for complex feeding issues which is family centered, non-judgmental that support and respects the individual decisions of the parents to meet their babies infant feeding needs. The IFN delivers education to Children's Health staff to enable a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, and consequently, the organisation has achieved and retained Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Gold Reaccreditation (November 2024).
