Adult Social Work
What do we do?
Our social work teams support adults aged 18 and over who need care and support. We assess each person's needs and then arrange the right services to support them. Formal services are provided in line with South Ayrshire HSCP Fair Access to Services and Eligibility criteria. We also help people find community resources, give advice and guidance, and, if needed, arrange 24-hour care.
We work in partnership with health services, families, carers, and third-sector organisations to develop tailored care plans that promote independence, dignity, and wellbeing.
We provide services across three localities so we can respond quickly and meet the needs of each community:
- Central (Ayr North and South and the surrounding villages)
- North (Troon, Prestwick and surrounding villages)
- South (Maybole, Girvan and the surrounding villages)

Can I get a service?
When you or a professional get in touch with us, our Initial Response Team will look at your referral and carry out an assessment. They will provide advice, information, and guidance to help you find the right support.
If you need more help, they may:
- Refer you for formal care services, or
- Pass your details to a local Practice Team for ongoing support.
Their main job is to make sure you get the right help quickly and are connected to the right level of care as early as possible.
